Laundry detergent appearance changes

Has your detergent ever had a color change or appear to have a floaty or cloud?
Rest assured … it’s fine. One of the glucosides we use that is actually one of the stronger ones for cleaning the lauryl glucoside is …. Both literally and figuratively temperamental.
If it gets to 69 or below it can do what’s called crystallizing and this doesn’t necessarily mean it’ll look like little crystals. It more refers to its ability to solidify. Basically it got cold so it started to get solid. It doesn’t always present as it being solid either. It can look like floaters, it can look like the photo below, it can look cloudy or milky. These are all just different levels of it solidifying.
It is perfectly fine and the formula is not compromised despite appearances and it’s less likely to happen during warmer months. If you keep your home cold though it may happen in storage.
That said ……
If it’s just a color change like Milky or cloudy it’s fine as is you can use it as is.
If it looks like it’s got floaters or like my photo then you’ll want to just warm it up slightly to reincorporate the lauryl glucoside.
HOW TO REINCORPORATE IT
all you have to do to re-incorporate the lauryl glucoside is place the glass bottle into a pot of water on super low heat until it’s clear again. If you have detergent pouch you’ll empty the contents into an empty pot on low heat until it’s clear and then using a funnel pour either back into the pouch once cooled or into your desired container. If you are using a container but ordered the pouch to refill that container then just put it into the container first before heating and do the steps for the bottle.
The lauryl glucoside is a heavy hitter in this formula for cleaning. Some glucosides are more gentle type of detergent like coco glucoside which is why it’s more suitable for skin. Decyl is in between can be used for both but isn’t as gentle as coco glucoside. Lauryl glucoside is however preferred for cleaning because it’s harsher on stains, grime and grease. So…. While it can be a bit temperamental it may have earned that right for the heavy lifting it does at making this detergent formula tough on stains, grease, grime, oils and odors.
