Decoding labels

Decoding labels
Did you know that brands are allowed to use vague terms that don’t fully disclose what ingredients are in a product?
Some examples are using a formulated ingredient that has ingredients within it and only disclosing the name of that ingredient. example think emulsifying wax NF which isn’t just emulsifying wax it’s polysorbate 60 and ethoxylated ingredient and cetearyl alcohol (this is fine)
However they can also just use blanket terms like ….
👉🏻natural vegetarian surfactant derived from corn
👉🏻plant sugars derived from coconut
👉🏻fermented sugar derived from beets
👉🏻glycols
👉🏻anionic/non ionic surfactant
👉🏻natural preservative
And yes this is is legal! ….. when I see these on a label I ask myself why they didn’t disclose what the actual ingredient is 🧐
Does this mean it’s inherently toxic? No not necessarily you can’t determine that without knowing what the ingredient is. It does however mean they lack transparency on their labels and depending on the companies explanation if you inquire with them potentially as a company.
When you see a blanket statement ingredient like this listed it definitely should prompt deeper investigation at the minimum.
